Feast Waikato

(April 5th-7th 2019)
Kicking off this April (5th-7th) is the inaugural Feast Waikato.  With a series of food events; from dinners and lunches to tours, talks and markets, all celebrating the mighty Waikato this is a weekend to mark in the diary.

The weekend will be launched on Friday the 5th of April with a progressive dinner down Hamilton’s Victoria Street.  This unique dinner is sure to not only set the scene for a fabulous weekend but sell out fast!

Launch Event -

CBD Event Progressive Dinner

Join us for the launch of Feast Waikato with a unique dinner comprising of four great restaurants, four amazing course paired with a special drink.

We start the night at one of our most awards restaurants, Palate for canapes over-looking the Waikato River.  A short stroll to Riverbank Mall and entrée at Mr Pickles before it’s off to Dough Bros for a main packed with local delights.  Capping off the night we finish at the other end of the street and another view of the mighty Waikato river with dessert at Gothenburg.

This fabulous night will sell out fast! 

Note: This is a set menu so no dietary adjustments can be made.  Not suitable for vegetarians, gluten free, dairy free…

Latte Art Lesson

Learn to turn your coffee into a work of art with the Grey Street Kitchens talented Barista team. 

This workshop is open to any level of coffee enthusiasts.  Dennis and John (both of whom are competing in the National Latte Art Champs in May) will demonstrate latte art skills from the basic patterns like a heart to complex patterns then giving you a chance to try your hand at it.

No espresso making required for the event, as a quick run through of the espresso making and milk steaming part will be covered.

It's Alive! A Dough Bros Workshop

Join the Dough Bros team as they guide you through a hands-on workshop creating two popular items from their menu. Groups will take turns to learn about, and have a go at making, our sourdough wood-fired pizzas and seasonal fruit shrub beverages.

Gain insight on how to make sourdough pizza at home, controlling rising and fermentation times. Have a go at stretching out your own base into whatever shape your heart desires (or talent allows). Pick from a selection of premium toppings including specialist locally-sourced fare. See your creation transform in our oven and enjoy your spoils.

Learn how to make fruit shrubs (drinking vinegars), popular in the 17th and 18th centuries. This old practice allows you to savour seasonal fruits for an extended period of time in a resulting refreshing beverage that can be mixed with soda water for a nice mocktail or used in mixed alcoholic drinks.  

 Prices include a private experience at Dough Bros; including a whole pizza of your own creation and two drinks from our seasonal shrub making station or house wine/tap beer if preferred.

Homegrown Harvest

celebrating food produced locally & at home

Homegrown Harvest is the food and garden feature at the Waikato Show, and celebrates food produced locally and at home.  Held at Claudelands 5-7 April, the event showcases a hand-picked selection of the finest regional food producers, with fresh seasonal products for you to sample and buy for your home pantry. 

Also part of the event is the Spade to Spatula demo kitchen, with a complimentary schedule of kitchen and garden demonstrations, giveaways, advice and tips on how you can make the most this seasons flavours and your garden bounty.

New in 2019 is Harvest Brews, where you’ll find a selection of local craft beers to sample and enjoy including a specially crafted seasonal brew thanks to our friends at Brewaucracy Craft Brewery and Taproom. 

A firm favourite is the Annual Harvest Food Competition, with categories in vegetable growing, premier pumpkins, marvellous marrows, jams and preserves.  The real eye catching entries include the PicMee! Apple Pie bake, and our cake decorating sections for professionals and amateurs.  Are you a dab hand with an apple pie?  Are your decorated cakes the talk of the town?  How about your vege growing and preserves?  Now is your chance to shine!  With categories for kids and adults alike, get your entries in and be rewarded for your efforts.
